CHEERS! SCREAMS! HUGS! TEARS!
That was our reaction when we hit the winning run in the final match of the Inter-School Cricket Tournament.
It was the final match against Bhanu School. They had beaten us last year, and we wanted revenge. The whole school was watching. Our teachers were cheering. Even Principal Sir was sitting in the crowd!
I was nervous when I went to bat. The bowler was fast. First ball – I missed. Second ball – I hit but got no run. My heart was beating so fast.
Then I remembered what our coach always says: “Watch the ball, not the crowd. Believe in yourself.”
Third ball – I saw it clearly. CRACK! The bat made the perfect sound. The ball flew to the boundary. FOUR RUNS! We won! We won!
My teammates ran to me. We were jumping, laughing, and crying together. Sir came and hugged each of us. He said, “This is what teamwork means.”
We got a huge trophy and medals. But the best prize was seeing our school name on the winner’s board. Panini School – CHAMPIONS!
What I learned: Cricket is not about one player. It’s about eleven friends playing as one. 🏏
