What the Bhagavad Gita Taught Me About Exams

“कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।”

“You have the right to perform your duty, but never to the fruits of your actions.”

I learned this shloka in our Bhagavad Gita class, and at first, I didn’t understand it. Our Guruji explained, “Do your work sincerely, but don’t worry too much about the result.”

I remembered this during my final exams last year. I had studied very hard for Mathematics, but on the exam day, my mind went blank. I was so scared that I would fail. Then I remembered Guruji’s words.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and told myself: “I have studied well. Now just write whatever I remember. Don’t worry about marks.”

Something magical happened. My mind became calm. I started writing, and slowly all the answers came back to me. I didn’t get the highest marks in class, but I did well. More importantly, I was not stressed.

Now whenever I feel nervous – before a match, during a speech, or during exams – I remember this shloka. Lord Krishna’s words are not just for big battles. They are for the small battles inside our mind too.

Gita teaches us: Do your best, and leave the rest to God. 🙏
